SDBF 2013

After delayed for quiet some time, SDBF was finally held on 17-18th August 2013. And as scheduled, we were participating. The race distance was shortened from 800m to 500m hence smaller room for errors and mistakes on the boat.

We are boat no. 6!
Same with last year competition, we gave good fight on our first heat thus giving us chance to qualify for semi finals through repechage. On our repechage we finished the third position and still that result qualifies us for semi finals!
On semi finals we met with German, Gaelic, and Filipino Dragons. Quiet formidable "enemies". And we finished on the fourth position, which means we can't continue to minor final anymore.

Although we didn't win anything this time, we bring home valuable lessons. This was first competition experience for some of our new paddlers. Congratulations!
Hope we can continue to train hard, build our team work, and keep the spirits going!

SDBF Postponed and New Recruitment

Due to the recent haze condition, SDBA has decided to postpone Singapore Dragon Boat Festival to 17 and 18 August 2013. Disappointed of course, but this also means we have more time to train!
Last Saturday and Sunday was the day when the SDBF was supposed to be, and we continued to train as usual.

For the next Sunday, it will be the first week when we will start recruiting again! New or seasoned rower, in or out of shape, male or female, as long as you have the intention to try out, this is your time. Although the situation will be a bit 'unique' due to the race preparation is still ongoing, we will try our best to support you in knowing this sport, and hopefully at the end: loving it.

Please feel free to contact us at fundragonboat@gmail.com for whatever questions you have in mind. We will get back to you with more information.

See you guys there! And for our current rowers: Keep training!

30th Singapore River Regatta 2012

Our race season concluded with a bang on 3 Nov 12 - 30th Singapore River Regatta 2012 (also known as SRR)!  Making a deliberate decision to get the newer paddlers involved in this race, the race crew comprised a fair mix of experienced and relatively new paddlers.  Our goal was to reach the semi-finals, something that we did not manage to achieve last year.

We went into our heats knowing that we were up against opponents we cannot afford to underestimate.  Being a short distance race of only 200m, there was little room for mistakes.  The crew raced their hearts out and managed to clinched 1st position in the heats.  That assured our place in the quarter finals.  In the quarter finals, we came in 2nd, behind powerhouse - Austcham Paddle Club.  By the progression criteria, we were again assured of progressing to the next level - semi finals.

As always, the competition would only get tougher.  This time round, we met another powerhouse (also eventual grand finalist) Filipino Dragons Singapore (FDS) and strong teams such as Jalan Besar CSC and Irish Business Association.  The semi-finals could never be more exciting with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placings finishing 0.01s one after another.  Coming in 3rd, we were fortunate that our time was good enough to qualify us into Minor Finals!  This was above our expectations and goal!

We were in the 'magical' lane 1 again (same lane since quarter finals), and we were determined not to lag behind so that we could capitalise on the water and lane conditions in the later part of the race course.  With unity and determination, we paddled ourselves into 1st position!  In the history of this team, this is the best result we had so far!

Our achievements this year would not have been possible without the passion and dedication of our coach, the sacrifice made by each of our fellow teammates and the tireless encouragement from our supporters.  We have learnt valuable lessons from this SRR (and also SDBF in July) and are humbled by the reminder that luck is on our side this year.  We will continue to train hard, improve and fight together as one, and look forward to 2013 and the challenges ahead.  Together in Victory!

SDBF 2012

It has been a long time since we last posted, because we have been busy training hard for the annual Singapore Dragon Boat Festival 2012. The competition remains tough, with top teams such as SPC and Mountbatten, also competing in the hotly-contested Inter-Business Houses and Clubs category.

It was a pity that the organisers decided to do away with the Plate and Minor finals this year, thus leaving only the Grand Finals for all to strive for.

Our draw for heats was not an easy one, with powerhouses such as SPC 'A' with us. We gave a good fight during our heats which enabled us a second chance to qualify to the semi-finals through the repechage. In our repechage, we had known teams such as SAFRA and the Corporate powerhouse HP giving us a good fight. Through our grit and might, we managed to clinch 2nd placing to qualify for the semi-finals.

As always, the competition only got tougher, we were up against teams such as Mountbatten, PLK and ITE during our semi finals. We never let the tough fight get the better of us, instead we were determined to row our best, both in form and in spirit.

Although we did not win anything this time round, we will never forget all the lessons we had learnt today, the camaraderie we forged and the memories created. We will continue to train hard and keep the esprit de corps going!
