17 Days to SDBA July Race

A very good Wednesday to all! Hope everyone is surviving well, and remember today's land training is at 7pm, Queenstown Stadium, rain or shine... I wished to see all of the team members there, the circuit training will certainly improve your overall strength and endurance. :)

Some notes from our dearest old man Captain Ivan:

"Hope everyone had a good start to the week - and no one is ill from rowing at bedok! (decomposed body found - urgh gross! if anyone feels ill please see a doctor immediately!)

We made some good progress last week... continue to turn up for tranings as the intensity will increased as we get closer to the race. Be prepared!"
There is a saying that goes, "
Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were made to do. -Orison Swett Marden
In FU Dragons, you were made to row, so believe that you can, I am sure everyone can exceed their limits and achieve the best timings for the July race. Believe and work hard, give in your best!

Lastly, 24 July is the day of our Recruitment Drive, our captain has spoken again, let's hear from him,

"Following the race we will take one week of rest and then re-start training on 24th July when we will open recruitment to new rowers. Please do invite anyone who might be interested in trying out and committing to dragonboating. They can contact me directly or send an email to fundragonboat@gmail.com or visit http://friendsunited-dragonboat.blogspot.com

As promised, we will arrange something fun for 24th - lets keep it a mystery for now."

Yes! Spread the word, Bring in the people, WE need FRESH BLOOD to be tortured! Joking~

That's all for this week,
Reminder:
Saturday Training as per normal, 9.45am at Bedok Reservoir
Sunday Training, SDBA Kallang, 1.45pm

See you there~

Recruitment Drive

Look out for more updates coming your way! Check our blog and facebook regularly!

The Weekend Training + National Vertical Marathon

Some little notes from Our Dear Captain Ivan Chong:

Thanks all for the effort everyone put in to come down early for the time trial on Sunday - it was indeed a long day and I'm still amazed at how Lele managed to compress training into such a short time! Tough but now after resting i can see how it's absolutely effective.

Do have a look at the videos that Keith posted on the facebook group (thanks Keith!) - you can see how international teams row. How coordinated, aggressive they are and how they really push their limits!

The time trial results are for our own records and to self improve. Rowing conditions changed throughout the time trial but these are the same challenges we might be facing during a race and they will only look at the end timing. We will aim to do more time trials (targetting end Aug and Oct) for everyone to monitor your progress.

Please DO NOTE that Tomorrow Training (15/06/2011) is shifted to Delta Clubfitt Gym instead of Queenstown Stadium, we will be doing weights training.

Saturday, 18 June 2011, Bedok Reservoir (9.30 am)
Sunday, 19 June 2011, SDBA Kallang (1.30pm) + Land Training

~End

Since I am the one blogging, let me share my experiences going for the National Vertical Marathon which took place last Sunday morning. All of you should try it at least once in your lifetime. 63 floors, climbed and conquered though I was already breathless at the 17th floor ~ when I reached the top, I was rewarded with a nice scenic view of the Marina Bay area, and of course Jelly legs...

NTU X-Physique and NUS Legs and Paddles (PHOTOS!)

THE RACE IS ON!!!

Ignite the Fire. Fire the Passion. Passionate about the Sport!
The July race is around the corner, I believed that all of you are up and geared for it!

Yea! Jia you! Hope everyone has a good rest over the weekends amidst the increased intensity of the training from our DEAR coach! A little note from our MOST LOVED Captain Ivan:

"have probably noticed that training intensity has increased - so please do keep healthy and get as much rest as you can during the week to recover. I believe our focus for this 800m meter race is going to be all about the consistency in pulling and keeping communication going within the team - let's use the last 4 weeks of training as best we can to make it count during the race!"

Yups, as the saying goes, 'When the going gets Tough, the Tough gets going!' make sure WE are the tough who gets going in this tough period!

Wednesday (08/06/2011)
7pm Queenstown Stadium *Rain/Shine (really helps in building up your fitness level)

Saturday (11/06/2011)
Currently still set as 10-12noon while Captain will conduct an urgent poll to see if 4-6pm would work better.

Sunday (12/06/2011)

Finally congratulations to those who had completed their LEGS and PADDLES race organised by NUS on last Sunday, hopes the rain did not deter you from overcoming all those obstacles. And to my team for completely the grueling NTU X-physique (run, walk, kayak, climb trees) from Paya Lebar to Dhoby Ghaut. FYI, I didn't got stuck in the floods, haha.
